Caracciola's win broke Italian dominance of a race Italy considered its own, driving a lightened, supercharged SSKL across roughly a thousand miles of open Italian roads, a result still cited among the great pre-war endurance performances.

CMC's Detail Work on the Lightened SSKL

The SSKL, an abbreviated and lightened development of the SSK built specifically for endurance racing, gets the same opening-panel treatment CMC applies to its other pre-war Mercedes releases: doors and bonnet that lift to expose the supercharged six, exposed exhaust piping, and body panels fitted as discrete pieces rather than cast as one shell. That approach lets the model show the lightened bodywork's drilled and trimmed panels, a detail specific to competition SSKLs versus the heavier road-going SSK. Paint and brightwork hold their finish well, and the shutlines, while wider than a resin casting could achieve, reflect the genuine multi-part assembly CMC is known for at this tier. This example is used, its box carrying traces of storage; the casting itself shows none of that wear.

Given its documented race and driver pairing, this SSKL works best as a centrepiece rather than background filler, ideally with supporting context about the 1931 Mille Miglia nearby.
