Cookie Policy (UK)

This Cookie Policy explains how Models118.co.uk, our shop for collectable model cars, uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the shop and your basket working, to understand how our website is used and to measure and personalise our advertising. It supplements our Privacy Policy and is based on the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR). Because Models118 is based in Poland, this policy also follows the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679).

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit our website. They allow our website to recognise your device and remember things such as your language, your currency and the contents of your basket, and they help us improve our services. We use both session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, and persistent cookies, which remain on your device for a set period.

Which cookies do we use?

Strictly necessary cookies (the ‘Functional’ category in our cookie banner, always active): These cookies are essential for our online shop to work. They keep the contents of your basket and your login session and remember your language, currency and cookie choices. When you sign in, sign out or place an order, we also set the m118_device cookie (kept for two years), which links this browser to the customer accounts used on it, so that the first-order discount for new accounts cannot be claimed again by opening another account on the same device. Under regulation 6(4) of PECR, cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested do not require your consent.

Preferences: We do not currently use any tools in this category.

Statistics: We use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand how our website is used and to improve it. Clarity also records your activity on our pages – clicks, scrolling and mouse movements – as session recordings and heatmaps. The data collected by these tools is passed to Google and Microsoft, and their cookies remain on your device for up to two years.

Marketing: We use Google Ads and the Meta Pixel to measure our advertising and to show you relevant ads. Google and Meta receive information about your visit, such as the products you view, add to your basket and buy, and their cookies remain on your device for up to 90 days.

Our own visit-source cookies: We set two cookies of our own for every visitor, and they are not controlled by the cookie banner. The m118_attr cookie (kept for 90 days) stores the ad click ID and campaign tags of the link that brought you to us, and the m118_src cookie (kept for 400 days) records where your first and most recent visits came from, such as a search engine, another website or a campaign. When you place an order, we save this information with your order and your customer account, so that we know which channels our customers come from. If you reached us through one of our Google ads, we also report your order to Google Ads together with the click ID and your consent status, so that we can measure our advertising.

On Models118.co.uk, we set statistics and marketing cookies only after you have agreed to them in the cookie banner. If you decline, these tools set no cookies on your device: Clarity and the Meta Pixel do not load and nothing is sent to Meta, while Google Analytics and Google Ads receive only basic signals without cookies through Google Consent Mode. We still report completed orders to Google Analytics from our server, so that our sales figures remain complete.

Third-party cookies

When you pay, our payment providers, such as Stripe and PayPal, may set their own cookies, for example to prevent payment fraud. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, those services may also set cookies. Please read the privacy policies of these providers as well.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, and subject to the conditions set out in each article, you have the right of access (Article 15), the right to rectification (Article 16), the right to erasure (Article 17), the right to restrict processing (Article 18), the right to data portability (Article 20) and the right to object to processing (Article 21). You can withdraw your cookie consent at any time using the ‘Manage cookies’ button in the footer. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work. In the United Kingdom, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO, ico.org.uk). In Poland, where Models118 is based, it is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO, uodo.gov.pl).

When you first visit our website, a cookie banner explains the categories of cookies we use (‘Functional’, ‘Preferences’, ‘Statistics’ and ‘Marketing’) and lets you choose which of the optional categories to allow. You can change your choices at any time using the ‘Manage cookies’ button in the footer. Switching a category off stops those tools on our website from that point on; cookies they have already placed remain in your browser until they expire or you delete them. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some features of our shop, such as your basket and signing in, may then stop working properly.
