Merz had already won a German Grand Prix for Mercedes years earlier at the Nürburgring, and by 1931 the SSKL's supercharged six and lightened chassis made the marque the car to beat on home soil.

Opening-Panel Detail on the #12 Works Racer

This model carries CMC's established construction for the SSKL era: doors and bonnet fitted as separate pieces, exposed piping along the bodywork, and an engine bay built to be opened and inspected rather than merely implied by a moulded shell. The racing number 12 sits crisply applied on the flanks, and the lightened body panels specific to the works SSKL are reproduced with the same detail CMC gives its other 1931 Mercedes releases. Handling the model, the weight and panel resistance signal the same metal, multi-part build found across CMC's pre-war catalogue, a deliberate trade of shutline tightness for mechanical accuracy.
