About the Porsche 901 Green CMC 1:18

TL;DR: CMC's 1:18 diecast Porsche 901 in green reproduces the coupe as launched in 1964, before Peugeot's trademark claim on three-digit numbers with a middle zero forced Porsche to rename it 911. Doors and engine cover open. The model is used, box showing storage marks, casting unaffected.

Very few road cars actually left the factory badged 901 before the switch, which makes the designation itself part of the appeal, a footnote in Porsche's history that CMC's replica lets a collector hold in the hand.

CMC's Multi-Part Build on an Early Rear-Engine Coupe

This diecast follows CMC's established approach to 1960s Porsches: separately fitted doors, an opening engine cover exposing the flat-six, and interior detail built from individually placed parts rather than a single moulded tray. The green paint shows genuine depth over the metal shell, and the shutlines around the doors and engine lid sit tighter than mass-market diecast typically achieves, though still with the slightly wider tolerance that comes from a body built in real assembled sections rather than one casting. Lifting the doors reveals a cabin with correctly shaped seats and dashboard detail, and the engine cover shows the flat-six layout that defined this car's handling character. This is a used example, its box carrying traces of storage; the model itself carries none of that wear.

A Founding Chapter for a 911 Collection

Placed at the start of a 911 lineage display, this 901 gives context that later, more common 911 variants lack on their own, the moment before the now-famous name existed. At roughly 22cm, it sits comfortably among other early Porsche coupes without needing the depth a larger racing subject demands. Collectors already holding later 911 diecast will find this piece rewards closer inspection precisely because of what it represents rather than outright rarity of parts count.
