About the Porsche 935/19 Black with Gold Stripes Minichamps 1:18

TL;DR: Minichamps' 1:18 diecast reproduces the Porsche 935/19 factory special in black with gold stripes, a modern track-only coupe built on 991.2 GT2 RS mechanicals and styled after the 1978 935/78 Moby Dick. An extremely limited factory-special subject for collectors chasing Porsche's most exclusive recent releases.

Porsche's modern 935 borrowed its silhouette from the 1978 Moby Dick, the long-tailed 935/78 that dominated Le Mans-era endurance racing, but underneath the retro bodywork sits thoroughly modern 991.2 GT2 RS mechanicals.

Minichamps' Rendering of a Modern Retro Special

The long, tapering tail and low, wide stance that defined the 1978 935/78 carry through clearly in Minichamps' 1:18 diecast, and the black body with gold stripes reproduces one of the liveries Porsche offered on the modern car, a deliberate nod to Porsche's 1970s factory racing colours. The stripe work is applied cleanly along the flanks and across the rear wing, holding a straight line rather than wandering. Panel lines around the extended rear bodywork and the prominent rear wing are well defined, and the wheels, styled to echo the period look while housing modern GT2 RS running gear underneath, sit properly filled in the arches.

Building a New 935 Around the GT2 RS

Underneath the retro bodywork, the modern 935 runs on 991.2 GT2 RS mechanicals, meaning the engine, chassis and much of the underlying engineering come straight from Porsche's most extreme road-legal 911 rather than from any genuine 1970s parts bin. Porsche built it as a track-only factory special, sold with no road registration and offered to a very small number of established customers, well outside ordinary showroom reach from day one. That approach, borrowing a modern platform to recreate a legendary silhouette, has become one of Porsche's favourite ways of marking its own motorsport history.

A Factory Special Among Road-Going 911s

Set beside a standard 991.2 GT2 RS, this 935 shows how far Porsche was willing to stretch the same underpinnings into something almost unrecognisable. It belongs in a collection built around Porsche's rarest recent factory specials.
