Building a car without a roof or windscreen was a deliberate nod to that era of open, exposed racing machinery.

The Stirling Moss arrived as the SLR programme's final act, a genuinely more extreme send-off than a simple special edition, stripped of comfort features in favour of raw presence and performance. Production stayed extremely limited, and the car represented Mercedes-AMG pushing the SLR concept as far as it could go before the platform was retired.
