About the Mercedes 500 E W124 Pearl Grey Norev 1:18

TL;DR: Norev's 1:18 Mercedes 500E W124 in Pearl Grey reproduces the 1990 performance saloon, assembled with Porsche's involvement, with opening doors, bonnet and boot. This is a new model in a new box. A quietly significant piece for a Mercedes performance saloon collection.

The 500E looked almost identical to an ordinary W124 at a glance, and that understatement is exactly the joke Norev's Pearl Grey diecast is in on.

Norev's Fresh-Built 1:18 500E

Straight from a new box, this zinc alloy body has the weight expected of a proper diecast rather than a lightweight toy. Doors, bonnet and boot all open, exposing a cabin trimmed to the W124's understated, business-first design language and an engine bay laid out with genuine care. Pearl Grey paint gives a subtle metallic shimmer under a display lamp without the loud finish a sportier model might carry, matching the real car's deliberately low-key presentation. Panel gaps sit at mid-tier width, and the widened wheel arches that mark a 500E out from a standard W124 are captured cleanly in the tooling.

Why the 500E Deserves Attention

Mercedes had Porsche handle much of the 500E's assembly, widening the body and fitting a larger V8 while keeping the styling changes deliberately subtle, so the car could outrun contemporaries without looking like it was trying to. That collaboration between two major manufacturers on a single saloon is a genuinely unusual footnote in both companies' histories, and it gives this model a story that a purely mainstream W124 wouldn't carry.

Displaying the 500E

At around 25cm, the 500E's proportions sit naturally among other W124-generation saloons, though the subtly flared arches reward a slightly closer look than a standard model would invite. Being new stock, it can go straight onto the shelf, and Pearl Grey keeps the presentation as understated as the real car intended.
