Alonso's departure from McLaren at the end of 2018 closed out a difficult period for the team on track, but the send-off at Abu Dhabi was treated as a proper farewell to one of the grid's most decorated drivers.

Diecast Build of the MCL33

The MCL33 marked McLaren's return to Renault power after several turbulent Honda-powered seasons, and the bodywork reflects a mid-2010s design language, narrower sidepods than later cars but a more complex nose and front wing arrangement than the previous decade's designs. Minichamps' zinc-alloy casting holds tight panel lines around the engine cover and diffuser, and the papaya-and-blue transitional livery of that period, sitting between McLaren's older orange heritage and its later full papaya identity, is tampo-printed with clean separation across the sponsor decals. Separately moulded wing elements preserve the thin aerofoil sections a single casting would otherwise blur, standard practice at this build tier. The car carries no opening features, consistent with Minichamps' approach across its current-era F1 range.

A Farewell Marked in Diecast

Alonso's Formula 1 career to that point had spanned two world titles and repeated near-misses with a third, and his final laps for McLaren at Abu Dhabi 2018 were widely covered as the end of an era rather than just another season closer, with a slow-down lap and celebrations that acknowledged the moment's significance.
