About the Mazda RX-7 FD Spirit R Type A Grey Metallic AUTOart 1:18

TL;DR: AUTOart's 1:18 diecast Mazda RX-7 FD Spirit R Type A wears grey metallic over the 2002 send-off edition of Mazda's rotary sports car. Opening doors and bonnet reveal cabin and rotary engine detail. It is a used example, and the outer box shows traces of storage. The Spirit R closed out FD3S production.

The Spirit R marked the final run of the FD3S RX-7, and the Type A trim carried the sharpest specification of that closing edition.

Diecast Detail on a Rotary-Engined Icon

This casting's doors and bonnet open with genuine mechanical resistance, revealing a cabin trimmed to Spirit R specification and an engine bay laid out to reflect the RX-7's distinctive rotary powerplant rather than a generic piston-engine substitute. Grey metallic paint carries real depth over the FD3S's rounded, low-slung body, picking out the smooth surfacing that separated it from more angular JDM contemporaries. Zinc alloy construction gives the model genuine weight, and the shutlines around the pop-up-style front and rear panels stay tight despite the moving doors and bonnet. As a used example, it carries some handling history, and the outer box shows traces of storage consistent with a dedicated JDM collection.

A Closing Chapter for a JDM Shelf

At around 21cm in 1:18, the RX-7's low roofline and rounded tail give it real shelf presence beside boxier contemporaries. Because the Spirit R represents the final specification before FD3S production ended, it carries particular significance for a JDM-focused display, marking the close of one of the genre's most distinctive engineering stories rather than just another RX-7 colour variant.
