About the MG Metro 6R4 #8 P. Eklund / D. Whittock Rally Finland 1986 Sun Star 1:18

TL;DR: Sun Star's 1:18 MG Metro 6R4 reproduces Per Eklund and Dave Whittock's #8 entry from the 1986 Rally Finland, with opening doors and bonnet showing the mid-mounted V6. This used model's box shows traces of storage, the casting itself unaffected. A second livery from the Metro's short Group B career.

Rally Finland's fast, flowing forest stages suited a car with genuine power and grip, and this Metro 6R4 livery documents its run at one of the calendar's most demanding rounds.

Sun Star's Diecast Build and Opening Panels

Zinc alloy construction gives this Metro genuine weight for its compact, flared shape, and both doors and the bonnet open on the model. Lifting the bonnet exposes the mid-mounted V6 layout that replaced the standard road-going Metro's transverse engine entirely, moving power to where rear seats would normally sit and fundamentally altering the car's balance for competition. Panel gaps run wider than premium resin builds, an honest trait of mainstream diecast tooling, but the box arches, roof scoop and #8 Finland-specific livery with period sponsor decals are all reproduced with genuine care, and the paintwork carries an even, consistent finish suited to a factory works entry.

Eklund, the 6R4, and Finland's Demanding Stages

Per Eklund campaigned the Metro 6R4 during its brief but intense Group B career, and Rally Finland's high-speed forest stages demanded a chassis that could handle sustained commitment through fast, blind corners rather than the technical precision needed on tarmac events. That contrast between events is part of what made Group B such a genuine test of both car and driver, since a machine tuned for Monte Carlo's tight hairpins needed real adaptation to succeed on Finland's flowing gravel roads.

A Second Metro Livery for a Group B Display

This is a used model, and the box shows traces of storage typical of a piece that has already spent time in a collection; the casting itself carries no such marks. Paired with another 6R4 livery, such as the Monte Carlo entry, this Finland car shows how factory teams adapted the same homologation special across genuinely different terrain within a single season.
